We got rid of tuition fees because we do not want higher education which depends on the wealth of the parents.
Gabrielle Heinen-Kjajic, Germany’s minister for science and culture.
Unlike Libertarians and Republicans like Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney who favor “boot strap theory” and advise struggling college students to simply borrow from their wealthy parents to pay for higher education, Germany Just Abolished College Tuition Fees.

- Seriously??? 2k??? that makes me want to cry. I tried to get a student loan about a year ago and they denied me because I had earned too many credits without completing a degree (I had gone through a high school program that allowed you to take college courses and apply them to your required high school credits, so I had to take courses that would actually apply to my high school credits or I wouldn’t graduate) I had to show up at the financial department and wait for over an hour to talk to someone to get that explanation and they told me that I needed to fill out this form explaining why I didn’t get a degree and then get it signed by the head of the program I wanted to sign up for.
Except that stupid flipping head of the program wasn’t going to be available and at the school until the quarter began. Meaning it would be too late for me to get the loan or even sign up for the course.
in the end I decided against taking the course in the first place but I would have had to borrow at least 5k to complete a 1 year program. This was at a community college and this program was a CHEAP program. as in all the courses are designed to certify you in one specific job, not like getting an actual degree in anything. That would cost like….
I mean my sister just finished her masters degree (prob 5 to 6 years schooling with pre-reqs) and has over 100k in student loans to pay off. Just…shoot me.
